Prime-Crete PC-1702 is a low viscosity, 100% Solids, solvent free two component cycloaliphatic amine cured Epoxy Primer. The PC-1702 is designed for use under epoxy grouts, mortars, toppings, high performance coatings and lining systems. The PC-1702 has been formulated to provide deep penetration into the concrete surface without the use of any solvent, therefore, eliminating any objectionable solvent odor, particularly inside buildings or around food processing and food storage areas. Also, PC-1702 Primer makes an excellent clear/amber floor finish. One (1) or two (2) coats provides a tough, hard, durable film which protects against dusting and surface deterioration.

PC-1702 Primer is available in a 15 gallon kit (2-5 gallons Base and 5 gallons Hardener) and a 3 gallon kit (2 gallons Base and 1 gallon container Hardener) and a 1.5 gallon kit (1 gal. Base and a half gallon of Hardener).

Prime-Crete PC-1702 is designed for priming concrete surfaces, to bond Epoxy Resurfacers and Overlayments such as epoxy grouts, mortars, toppings, slurries, seed-ins, and power troweled floors. PC-1702 is also used as a primer on concrete under high performance epoxy coatings and linings, such as CM-15, PC-500, PC-517, PC-555, PC-590, PC-1803, and PC-1850. PC-1702 is also used as a primer for CT-352 Polyester Polyurethane.

Ideal as sealer coat for new or old concrete surfaces to help prevent penetration of water and chemicals and the effects of freeze/thaw cycles. PC-1702 helps prevent spalling, deterioration and the dusting of concrete.

Ideal for warehouse floors, loading docks, garages, secondary containment areas, aircraft hangars, production areas, sumps, tank pads, pump supports, and other concrete surfaces.

Surface Preparation
Gulf Coast Paint Mfg., Inc. recommends four types of surface preparation. Any one of the four surface preparations may be sufficient or a combination of the four may be required depending on the condition of the concrete surface.

1. High Pressure Wet Abrasive Blast Cleaning
All loose and unsound concrete must be mechanically removed down to sound concrete by means of power tool equipment, such as, chipping/scaling hammers, rotary scalers, etc.

High pressure water blast with sand injection all surfaces to remove all laitance, contaminants, and other foreign deposits to provide a sound, clean surface. Use clean dry air to blow down these areas to remove excessive moisture.

2. Acid Etch
Apply Gulf Coast Paint's Clean & Etch Concrete Acid Solution at a spread rate of approximately 75- 150 square feet per gallon. Work the solution into the concrete with a stiff broom or fiber brush.

Allow solution to remain on the concrete surface for approximately 10 minutes, or until the effervescing and bubbling ceases. Then flush floor thoroughly with clean, fresh water to remove all laitance, dirt, and other foreign materials.

NOTE: Do not allow the Clean & Etch solution to dry on the floor before flushing off because dirt, etc., can be redeposited in the pores of the concrete.

3. Vacuum Blast
All areas of the existing concrete may be Vacuum Abrasive Blast cleaned using a Wheelabrator Blastrac Shot Blast Machine with Dust Collector. A proper anchor profile pattern shall be achieved to provide maximum adhesion of the recommended system. A thorough washing may be necessary prior to blasting to remove all foreign matter. Check with Blastrac Mfg. for proper shot and application procedures.

4. Dry Abrasive Blast
Abrasive blast concrete surface to remove all laitance, loose concrete, coating, sealers, etc. It is necessary to achieve a rough anchor pattern and get to sound concrete. All blast material and foreign matter must be removed before application.

In all cases of surface preparation, the pH should be checked. A pH reading of 7.0 - 8.5 is acceptable. Also, a "Water Dissipation Test" should be made on random areas of the floor. A "Vapor Barrier Test" should also be run on the concrete. Consult Gulf Coast Paint Mfg. for specifics on testing. Do not apply coating to slabs on grade unless a heavy unruptered vapor barrier has been installed under the slab.

New concrete must be cured at least a minimum of 28 days before applying a coating. All laitance, efflorescence, sealers, chemical contaminants, grease, oil, and other foreign material must be removed. The prepared surface must be clean, dry and structurally sound.

Mixing Instructions, Application Procedure & Recoat Time
Mixing Instructions
PC-1702 is prepared by mixing 2 parts Base (Part A) to 1 part Hardener (Part B) with a slow speed power drill with a Jiffy mixer. Do not vary from mix ratio proportions. PC-1702 may be used immediately after mixing; no induction time is required.

Application Procedure
For best results, apply PC-1702 with a short nap roller or squeegee at 160-200 sq/ ft. per gallon. After applying PC-1702, immediately back-roll material with a porcupine roller to break up any air bubbles formed by mixing or during application. If any concrete out-gassing occurs, roll 1-2 coats of PC-149 or PC-155 Concrete Primer directly to the concrete surface to help reduce out-gassing before applying PC-1702. The primer should be butterfly rolled into the concrete to provide uniform coverage.

NOTE: For safety and product curing, proper ventilation is necessary throughout application and cure. When using pigmented Finish Coats, be sure the batch numbers are all the same to provide a uniform color.

Do not apply to surfaces below 50 ºF. or above 100 ºF. Do not apply if the surface temperature is within 5º of the Dew Point. PC-1702 Base and Hardener should be stored at 75 °F-85 °F to help maintain a lower, reliable viscosity. Do not apply when material is cold. If a non-skid finish is required, prepare a test patch for owner approval prior to application. PC-1702 is not recommended as a finish coat in areas where there is direct sunlight. PC-1702 Gray is not recommended as a finish coat due to its very light pigment loading. Not recommended on floors susceptible to hydrostatic pressure. These systems are designed for application by professional experienced flooring contractors.

Recoat Time
As a primer for epoxy mortars, toppings and 100% solids resins and coatings, PC-1702 should be topcoated while still tacky. At 75 ºF this will be approximately 4 hours to 8 hours when PC-1702 is applied at a rate of 8 dry mils or 200 sq. ft/gal

When used as a primer for solvent coatings, PC-1702 must be dry. Under the same conditions this will be 18 hours minimum and 48 hours maximum. If the recoat time is in excess of 48 hours, sanding and applying a thin coat of primer is recommended.

PC-1702 Base is combustible. PC-1702 Hardener is corrosive. Keep away from all sources of ignition during storage, mixing, application and cure. The Hardener (Part B) either alone or when mixed with Base (Part A) can cause eye and skin burns as well as allergic reactions. When spraying, the use of goggles, fresh air masks or NIOSH approved respirators, protective skin cream, and protective clothing is recommended as a standard practice. This product is sold without warranty as to performance expressed or implied. Users are urged to make their own tests to determine the suitability for their particular conditions.
